OK so you are seeing results...
But what the mechanism actually is needs to
be established and understood before it can be used as a proper
"tool".
I do not see that the change
to 4.9 cellsize foundation causes an increase
of costs, although during the transition period some honey will
be converted
to wax. The original wax is not "lost" and can be recycled.
Once this
transition has been made you will only be replacing foundation
on your
normal 3 or 4 year renewal cycle.
To offset the cost of the transition
period you are likely to have
healthier, more productive colonies that require less effort
to manage.
This looks to me like an increase
in profitability rather than "devastating
their income".
