I'd like to know more about the reasoning behind this, I simply do not
understand any possible correlation between a hole in a capping and
stimulation of hygenic behaviour, even if the hole is the same size as a
varroa mite.

To me the hole in the capping is merely there because a pin was used to kill
the cell occupant, in an attempt to find colonies with hygenic behavior.

Are you suggesting that the bees can be "trained" in some way?
