I think that what is meant
is the WBC type of hive which has a normal stack
of boxes such as you are used to seeing and using all contained
within an
outer casing of "lifts". These are usually narrower
at the top of each lift
than the bottom to give the impression of a pagoda. There is
an air gap of
about 2 - 3 inches between the inner and the outer. Provided
the roof stays
on they stay bone dry inside and the bees love them. They are
the old
fashioned garden hive and are fine so long as you don't want
to move them.
