Subject: Wing Veins
Hello Everyone,
I have been playing with the
wing diagrams Dee has provided and a scan of
a bee wing from one of my own bees. It is not an easy task to
visually
compare the two. Subtle difference are hard to discern on the
computer
screen unless like Dee suggested they are plotted and overlayed.
Could an easy field method involve
scanning a referenced wing with a
given resolution say 1200dpi? Beekeepers could then scan their
own bee
wings at the same resolution, download the reference scan and
plot both
of them on his own printer. Any difference or distortion caused
by
differing screen or printer resolutions or aspect ratios would
be
minimized. No measurements or math would be necessary.
Older material such as wing drawings
could be scanned and if the
measurements are available scaled to reflect the math. These
could then
be used to visually compare against actual wing scans.
Just an idea.
