Subject: Re: Wax
For melting wax I use 2 methods.
In summer I use a self made solar wax
melter, which is a sloping tray with a glass cover. Putting the
wax at the
top, it melts and slowly trickles down through a filter which
is a hardware
cloth into a collector (I use a cake form) On the way down the
dirt in the wax tends to stick on the tray. The advantage is
that you just fill the melter and when the wheater is nice the
wax is melted in 1 or 2 days. In winter time when in this region
the sunshine is limited and not very intense I put the wax
with some stones in a pantyhose or some cheese cloth. This I
drop in a pan
with water. Heating up the water but do not let it boil (wax
melts at about 60
degrees centigrade) The wax will float on the water, after letting
it cool down you can just take out the wax. At the onderside
of the wax blocks, made by both methods, you can scrape of some
dirt. To make the wax even more pure you can repeat the process.
I must say I only melt small amounts.
Good luck
