Subject: Re:supering for brood, framespace
Hi John
Frame sides manufactured in
UK come in 42 mm (Manley), 38 mm (1 1/2")
Hoffman, 35 mm (1 3/8") Hoffman, 36.5 mm (1 7/16")
(1.45" WBC spacing)
Hoffman.
Most buyers of beekeeping kit
do not consider the differances and their
implications.
The just see a Hoffman frame side and recognise it as a frame
side. Mention
intercomb spacing and they are out of their depth.
I use the 38 mm ones for deliberate
drone raising and cell bar frames.
It seems to have been the same
with foundation cellsize... "worker" or
"drone" cellsize?
I dunno, its "worker" or "drone", nobody
ever asked whether the size was
"correct" for "worker" or "drone"
useage.
Thinking during the 1880s (Samuel
Simmins) was that the best place to get
worker comb drawn was under the brood nest. His "Conquerer"
hives were
designed with this in mind.
His book... A Modern Bee Farm
would give you much "food for thought" I have
had much use of my copy, but it cost £15.00 from Karl Shower
many years ago
so it won't be cheap now.
I got stuck in the mud in my
apiary the other day... Weather even more
diabolical!
