Hi all

Joel asks about plywood...

I have spent much time experimenting with plywood in hive construction.

The grade has to have a fully waterproof glue otherwise it falls apart after
a few years.

In UK we have a grade known as "far eastern exterior grade" this is made
from hardwood veneers with a fully waterproof glue. It is heavy compared to
cedar or pine but it is functional and takes linseed oil finish very well.

If used for hive bodies we only use it for two out of four sides as the
waterproof glue stops any moisture getting out so if the ends are pine the
sides are plywood and vice versa.

However in USA wide boards are innexpensive and widely available... Try your
local sawmill They may even produce PAR timber to your specified sizes.
