As a certain Imker (that is German for "Beekeeper", just in case anyone was
wondering) has taught me, give the ants some bait. As I have my hives on a
hive stand and also on open mesh floors, last year most of the ants were
busy shopping in the warehouse that was underneath the hives on the
beehouse floor. They were so busy collecting in the junk that they didn't
seem too interested in going up into the hives. Sometimes there was strong
competition between the ants and the wasps who went down there as well to
steal any of the honey or syrup drops that fell through.
