Subject: Apis Millefera Millefera
Hi all,
Here in Alaska we get our package
bees from northern California, in which we
have three strains of queens to chose from. We can order Italians,
Carniolans, Caucasians, and I have had Buckfast queens slipped
into my
packages before shipping. Out of these I have had the best overwintering
with the Caucasians but none are very impressive. Rarely do we
get any
through that build up to make a good return of honey, although
some do.
I have been studying different
strains and have concluded that Apis
Millefera Millefera may be our best to get bees through the winter.
This
strain is not available in the USA, that I am aware of. I have
spoken with
our Department of Agriculture, and USDA and am in the process
of getting a
permit to import queens of Apis Millefera Millefera into Alaska.
I am
looking for a pure and reliable source of this strain for testing.
Can
anybody out there help me or give me any suggestions in doing
this.
Thanks, Keith Malone
