Forrest,
I didn't actually apply the
amount of logic to putting the bees onto 4.9 that
you imply, although you describe what I did pretty accurately.
They were the
warm way because of the design of the hive (CDB). The only drawn
comb I had
available to get them started was built on standard foundation.
Then came
some plastic 5.2 because Murray had sent me some to try, because
it was
plastic, not because it was 5.2. At this time I was getting
my act together
with my foundation press and so the subsequent sheets were 4.9
which they
drew reasonably well, using for honey storage at first until
the brood area
expanded onto them. As far as I remember I didn't feed so they
expanded at
their own pace, which was not very fast last year.
