SHB fly into hives, and catch
rides on bee legs that abscond. They can fly
several miles when searching for new homes. Strong hives keep
them somewhat
in check, weaker ones quickly succumb. Apparently simply checking
on your
bees can trigger massive egg laying in SHB.
