Most Biblical scholars (I'm sure I could find references if anyone's
interested) would probably say that the reference is to stewardship
rather
than domination; ie it's not arbitrary authority to do what you
like. Coming
at this as a theologian rather than as a beekeeper, I'd have
to say that if
Psalm 104, which celebrates God's control of all creation, gives
us some sort
of basis, then our authority must derive from God's, which is
shown again in
Genesis; it is God who gives it to us. So let's use it with care,
and look
after God's creation instead of abusing it!

on, I'm not sure about clipping queens; can
anyone prove that mated queens never take flights?
