Subject: Regression: bee length as an indication of "true"
sizing down?
Hey all,
I have been watching as Dennis
M. has sent his measurements of small cell bees
and largecell bees in to the lists. I stumbled across some info
in ABJ pg. 52
about apis mellifera ligustica spinola in china. They measure
1.2 to 1.3 which
is as me and dennic discussed at chat at beesource around 10%
smaller than his
small cell bees. Now he has got my curiosity! Just because the
cell sizes are
changed to 4.9, does that mean that the bees are completely sized
down? Do you
think measuring bee lengths along with cell size would give a
better indication
of how the bees are truly coming along in the regression process?
How would
caste sizing play apart here? Also as this is being sent to 3
lists, I wonder
if Erik O. could mention again about his trials in weighing regressed
bees to
see if they compared with Wedmores info? Also if he has done
anymore in that
regard in the last year to see if the bees average weights have
come more in
line? Comments? Thoughts?
regards,
Clay
