We call it 8 mesh, I think it is called 1/8th hardware cloth in US

It is a 3 mm pitch galvanised mesh which has holes about 2.5 mm square.

We Brits use it over the entire bottom area of the hive (I am different to
most as I have only 50% area screened)

The mesh has to be this small to prevent bees or wasps entering for robbery.
