Subject: Re: Measuring cell size
It is sometimes difficult to
decide whether or not the bees have drawn out
comb to a particular size. As a simple aid I drew an irregular
quadrilateral
on a sheet of white paper with sides measuring from 49 upwards,
and wrote
the measurement against each side on both sides of the paper.
I cut the
shape from the paper and ran it through the office laminator
so it is encased
in clear plastic. I have yet to try it in the field but it works
well on odd
pieces of comb by trying for the best fit against a run of cells.
Of course
it needn't be a quadrilateral: any polygon would do.
