A pity. Lists like Bee-L reach
a far wider beekeeping audience than any state
convention. I'm surprised that you feel that folk who have tried
4.9 and seen it work for themselves are willing to talk in front
of a live audience and the doubters there, but wouldn't be able
to put an ignoramous on an email list in their place by saying:
"This is my experience of 4.9 - the ignoramous has none."
Especially an American!
It frustrates me that apart
from those still in the early stages of trying it (such as on
this list) who really aren't in a position to make claims yet
(without them being easily
dismissed by the sceptics), off the top of my head i can only
really think of yourselves (Ed-Dee) and Erik that are actually
saying "it works!".

Sorry Dee, this is not correct.
The NZ government as part of its emergency varroa
responce budget to slow the initial spread, and keep non-mite
areas free for an extra season or two (hopefully) bought the
miticides and allowed 2 free treatments to
beekeepers affected. This is not being done by the chemical company
- they are happily charging the government!
Varroa is only in 1/2 of the
North (smaller) Island here - the "Mainland" (South
Island) has yet to find a mite (and they have tested thousands
of hives in the search for mites, and still are testing/searching).
The thinking is the lower they can keep mite numbers in the
infested area, the slower it will spread out of this area into
non-mite zones (bee-movement out of this area is prohibited).
Hence the government funded miticides.

this time.
