If you have 1 queen cell to
100. Your colony is considered queen right by
the bees. Best to let them at it than to add costly queens as
you have just
found out. The fact that the cell was open should indicate there
was a
virgin. Next time shut up the colony and come back later. I suspect
you
missed the queen as she was mating or possiblly was still small(unmated).
Here's a secret! Your bees can raise just as good of queens as
the big
breeders. Remember there the ones trying to sell some thing.
There claims
are great but bees are bees!(once in awhile some do have really
awesome
stock, however). Learn to raise them, its easy as they do all
the hard
parts.
