Hi all,
Great pictures Barry, Thanks! Was that swarm africanised bees? They didn't
even kill you guys! ;-) They look like the bees I knew in SA. The holes in
cappings and 'bald brood' are common here in Berkshire. I got a (justified
and gentle) rap on the knuckles from my Bee Disease Inspector for ignoring
this classic symptom of AFB last year. When I explained I'd torn enough
larvae to pieces to see if they were ropey she pointed out the colony I
didn't check would be the one to infect my entire operation...correctly
again. Those queens are all alive, but I never saw missing bits of larvae,
just the uncapped cells. Some 'scatterbrood' which I think was chalkbrood
related. I'm taking these as good signs, and shaking down from a few of them
this week. Especially the one whose queen I haven't seen since she was a
virgin, and that I nearly killed because of so much scatterbrood...
Egards to all
