Subject: Are my Bees confused?
Hello all,
Finished cleaning up the mess.
Five days before the flash
flood I had placed four frames, that I had cut
the comb out of, in each brood box . I put no starter strips
in. I just
cut the wax as close to the wood as possible. I installed them
second
and fourth from each side. The bees had begun building comb
in most of
these frames that I recovered. Much of this comb was not crushed,
but
was full of mud and had to be removed. While cleaning up I set
these
frames aside to measure.
The worker brood cells measured
5.2 to 5.3 mm. No surprise.
To ask my question I must try
and draw a word picture of what I found. A
cell has six sides. To measure you imagine a line through parallel
sides, count and measure ten cells. In three directions it is
possible
to get three different measurements.
I know I read somewhere a long
time age that one of these lines would be
horizontal. We always install foundation with one of these lines
horizontal. This is not what I found. Each comb was angled
differently.
One section of drone comb was oriented vertically.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Or are my bees confused?
Micky
