Re: My mistake about 4.9 (dadant)

Hi Clay

I bought a ruler today and measured the new Dadant foundation which I told
you came in last Fri., and it measures 4.85 in two directions, and 4.9 in
the third. I reckon that qualifies. I ordered off of their internet
catalog, without specifying a size, just ordered what they called small cell
foundation. I have since rec'd their paper catalog, and it specifies 4.9mm
on the page, under the picture of the foundation.

I measured some comb I took from a feral hive last year (the source of the
queen I accidently injured in my hive inspection 2 wks ago) and found that
to measure 4.9, also. That queen was part of a swarm from a colony in the
walls of a farm house 30 miles north of me. The owner won't let me dig out
the colony in the walls, but I am going to put several bait hives around it
to catch whatever swarms emanate this spring. Might even work better that
way.

Anybody have an idea when swarming is likely to begin in the northern
MO/southern IA area?

Thanx, Joel
