Subject: Re: HIVE SPLITTING
Dear George;
I have kept bees commercially
in CA, SASK, HI and VA get on the phone
now and order 3 queens per good hive (2 good boxes of bees) you
anticipate splitting. When they arrive give each a drop or two
of water on the screen of the mailing cage. Go to your marked
good hives remove 3/4 of bees and brood leaving the old queen
and field force. Take the three new splits to a new location
at least 2 miles away evenly split brood and bees a screened
top and bottom works great. Wait 24 hours release the caged
queen into the queenless nuc get ready for the honey flow. The
best 10% of these should make a super or more of surplus. 90%
will be excellent 2 stories for the fall. This is beekeeping
making increase and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Sincerely Jim Lee
